The Pookolam Competition and Hostel Onam – Pookalam Nights were conducted on 25th and 26th August 2025 at the MGR Auditorium, celebrating the vibrant festival of Onam with great enthusiasm and cultural spirit. Designed as a festival celebration and traditional showcase, the two-day event aimed to promote cultural values, creativity, and unity among hostel students.
The programme was organized by the Hostel Committee with the support of the Student Council under the guidance of the Office of Student Affairs. The event was presided over by Dr. K. S. Shaji (Dean of Student Affairs), Rev. Justin Jose (Student Chaplain), Mrs. Beena James (HoD Student Affairs), Mr. Prakash (Hostel Manager), along with hostel wardens, officers, and faculty members.
The celebration commenced on 25th August with Pookalam Nights, where hostel teams participated in a floral design competition. Students showcased their creativity and teamwork by creating intricate and colourfulpookolams, symbolizing prosperity and cultural heritage. The event fostered healthy competition and festive cheer, with participants being recognized for their outstanding designs.
On 26th August, the Hostel Onam Celebration continued with a grand cultural evening. The programme began with a prayer, followed by a welcome address and the traditional lighting ceremony, marking an auspicious start. The stage featured a variety of performances, including the classical Thiruvathira dance reflecting Kerala’s traditions, energetic fusion dances, and a vibrant ramp walk. Interactive games such as “Bring It On” and “SundharikkuPottuThodal” added excitement and audience engagement.
Musical performances, including solo singing, band performances, and group dances, further enriched the evening, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, organizers, and participants.
In conclusion, the two-day Onam celebration was a grand success, blending tradition, creativity, and entertainment. The event strengthened the sense of community among hostel residents, showcased student talent, and beautifully reflected the cultural essence of Onam, leaving participants with memorable experiences and a spirit of togetherness.
