Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science celebrated Ponnonam ’25 on 30th August 2025 at the MGR Auditorium, bringing together students, faculty, and staff for a vibrant celebration of Kerala’s cultural heritage. The event was organized by the Malayali fraternity with the support of the HITS Student Council under the guidance of the Student Affairs Department, aiming to promote tradition, unity, and cultural diversity on campus.
The celebration began at 11:00 AM with participant registration, followed by a graceful Mega Thiruvathira performance, setting a festive tone for the day. A colorful procession featuring Singarimelam, Kathakali, and traditional art forms brought energy and excitement across the campus, inviting everyone to be part of the Onam spirit.
The formal programme commenced with a prayer, followed by the welcome address and the traditional lighting of the lamp in the presence of dignitaries. The event was further enriched by a series of cultural performances including Kerala Nadanam, Mohiniyattam, fusion dances, and solo singing, showcasing the rich artistic talent of the student community. A special highlight was the symbolic arrival of Mahabali, representing prosperity and happiness.
The celebrations also featured a traditional ramp walk and Pookalam competition prize distribution, adding creativity and festive engagement to the event. The formal session concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the serving of the traditional Onam Sadhya, bringing everyone together in a spirit of unity and celebration.
The event concluded with an energetic performance by Fejo & Team and DJ Adarsh, creating a lively and memorable finale. Ponnonam ’25 was a grand success, beautifully blending tradition with youthful energy and leaving lasting memories of joy, togetherness, and cultural pride.
