THE DEPT OF EIE ORGANIZED TWO DAYS FDP | Event Date: Wednesday, 11th, January 2017


Centre for Sensors and Process Control (CENSE) and Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, School of Electrical sciences jointly organized Two days Faculty Development Programme on ARM Cortex Microcontrollers – Real Time Applications on 11th and 12th January 2017.

This Faculty Development Programme had four sessions. We had about two renowned speakers who started the session each day, followed by the two hands on session by the industry experts. The Faculty Development Programme received an overwhelming response with 30 participants from various Departments.


The Programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr.D.Thirugana Murthy, Head,Electronics and Instrumentation Department, IGCAR, Kalpakkam at Intel Intelligence lab, PG Block 1st floor around 9:30A.M

Inauguration of Faculty Development Programme “ARM Cortex Microcontrollers – Real Time Applications”Lecture by Dr.D.Thirugana Murthy, Head, Electronics and Instrumentation Department, IGCAR, Kalpakkam on “Real time Embedded systems”.

Dr.Uppu Ramachandraiah, Head, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Hindustan University, Chennai welcomed the guest and resource person, Dr.D.Thirugana Murthy, Dr.Ravi Kumar, Head, Department of Chemical Engineering, Hindustan University and the faculty members from various Departments. Dr.Uppu Ramachandraiah gave the opening remarks and elaborated about the four sessions. He also enlightened the focus of the FDP that it will establish an effective platform for faculty members and experts from industries to exchange and share their ideas. Dr.Ravi Kumar gave an inaugural talk and addressed about the importance and innovative ideas that the faculty members have to take forward for the student’s development.

He gave an insight about the challenges faced in the design and development of Real time embedded system and its application. He also elaborated on the application of embedded system in nuclear reactor I&C systems. His presentation exposed the faculty members with ample knowledge on development methodology, design Qualifications,Software module implementation,testing and safety measures in nuclear reactors. He also highlighted the thrust area of research in real time embedded system. Finally he concluded by giving an idea about recruitment process at IGCAR. Post Lunch, the session started with an Introduction on ARM Controllers by Mr.G.MuthuKumaran, Associate professor, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering,Hindustan university. He also introduced the resource person Mr.Venkatesan, Application Engineer, Embedded System Solution Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore. Mr.Venkatesantook over the session and explained the various features and Applications of ARM Controllers. Followed by the presentation the participants moved on to the practical training on ARM microcontrollers. The hands-on Training focused on the Interfacing of STM 32F 407 ARM cortex board with sensors.The session continued till 4:00 PM .


The Day 2 of the FDP started off again in the same venue by welcoming the resource person Mr. Vishnu Vardhan, Managing Director, TREND Instrumentation and Automation Pvt. Ltd, Chennai. The session was handed over to Mr.Vishnu Vardhan.He gave an Introduction andPresentation on Design of Process Instrumentation and Safety.His presentation covered various topics like process safety,Instrument safety, Interlocks pertaining to oil and gas industries.He also detailed about safety system and its measures that have to be necessarily followed at various stages in a process industries. The lecture was very informative. Various doubts raised by the participants was clearly answered and whole session was highly interactive.

During the Valedictory programme, Dr. Uppu Ramachandraiah profusely thanked the participants and the guest Mr. D. Kannan ,Regional Manager, Embedded System Solution Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore for his presence and his valuable support. He also expressed his gratitude to the faculty members for the cooperation and for the successful completion of the faculty development programme.The Guest addressed the gathering and shared his invaluable experiences with the participants. He had expressed his happiness about the event and shared the importance of the programme which acts as a link between industry and university. Followed by the valedictory talk, the participants shared their feedback and their experience. The valedictory function concluded with Vote of Thanks by Mr.G.Muthukumaran, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Hindustan University. The faculty development programme ended successfully with photo session with delegates and participants.
