NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTELLIGENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS NCIIS-2017 | Event Date: Monday, 27th, February 2017

National Conference on Intelligent Information Systems (NCIIS 2017)

School of Computing Sciences, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Sciences in association with Centre for Networking and Cyber Defense (CNCD) hosted the National Conference on Intelligent Information Systems on 27th February 2017. The event was sponsored by Department of Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and GUVI, a business incubator company under Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

The theme of the conference "Intelligent Information Systems" is relevant to today's context as the world is evolving smart. It was inaugurated by Dr. Ajith Abraham, Machine Intelligence Research Laboratory, USA along with Dr. S Selvakumar, Dean, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Srirangam. Dr. S Ramachandran, Vice Chancellor, HITS delivered the Presidential Address. Dr. Rajeswari Mukesh, Head, School of Computing Sciences, welcomed the gathering. Dr. V Ceronmani Sharmila, Associate Professor, Department of IT and Convenor introduced the theme "Intelligent Information Systems" .Dr. Ilavazhagan, Director – Research in his Special Address emphasized contemporary research need in the field of Intelligent Information Systems.

The Chief Guest Dr. Ajith Abraham delivered the inaugural address he emphasized the social importance of the theme in today's business context. The researchers interested in this field have been given an impetus for carrying out intensive, fundamental and application oriented research in this emerging area.


The Chief guest released the Book of Abstracts of the National Conference which is a compilation of the abstracts of the research papers and posters of the participants. Dr. D Jinil Persis, Associate Professor, Department of CSE proposed the vote of thanks. The technical sessions of the conference comprising of keynote address, paper presentations and poster presentations on recent research fields such as Ambient intelligence and smart environment, Intelligent security systems, Machine learning & adaptive intelligence and Context inference & cognitive awareness. The first technical session on Ambient intelligence and smart environment started with the keynote address of Dr. S Selvakumar. Research papers related to IoT, Personalized computing, Embedded smart Agents, Pervasive computing, Applications of ambient intelligence in various fields, Development of smart Products and environments were presented by faculty members, research scholars, PG scholars and professionals from industry. The paper presentations are reviewed by a panel consisting of Dr. H Khanna Nehemiah, Associate Professor, CEG, Anna University and Dr. Krishnamurthy KCG College of Technology.

The second technical session on Intelligent security systems started with the keynote address delivered by Mr. BharathidasanRajaraman, Associate Vice President, SPi Global. Research papers on Design and implementation of secured intelligent systems, Smart metering, Secured smart objects, Intelligent detection schemes, Adaptive threat models, Secured Databases were the highlight of this session. The papers were presented by the participants before a panel of experts, Dr. M R Sumalatha, Associate Professor, MIT, Anna University and Dr. EmilinShyni C, Professor, Dept. of CSE, KCG College of Technology.

The third technical session on Machine Learning and adaptive intelligence was organized and the keynote speech was delivered by Dr. B Muthukumaran, GM, HTC-ITMR. He is a renowned expert in machine learning and he has demonstrated few problem instances and has given the audience with an exposure of the tools and techniques of machine learning for their use in research work. Research papers on topics such as, Predictive data analysis, Computational intelligence, Application of machine learning in gaming, robotics, data mining, web mining, pattern recognition, medical diagnostics and other relevant areas were presented by the participants before an expert panel comprising Dr. V Masilamani, Assistant Professor, IITDM, Chennai and Dr. Dhanalakshmi R, Professor, Dept. of CSE, KCG College of Technology. The fourth session on Context inference & cognitive awareness was organized and Dr. M A Bhagyaveni gave the keynote address on Cognitive Science and applications. She is a Professor at Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Anna University. She is an expert in cognitive science and has carried out state-of-the-art academic research and projects in her experience. She gave the participants fundamental, theoretical and application oriented knowledge on cognitive science. Research papers on Cognitive wireless sensor network, Context inference for web based information systems, Development of wearable devices, Cognitive Radio based communication techniques for developing Smart objects were presented before the expert panel members, Dr. B Muthukumaran, GM, HTC, ITMR and Dr. Frank Vijay, Professor & Head, Dept. of IT, KCG College of Technology. The valedictory function of the Conference was held on the final day and Mr. Ashish Srivastava Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory (CAIR), DRDO Bangalore was the Chief Guest. Mr. Ashish in his valedictory address stressed the importance of hard work which has no substitute to achieve great heights. The summary of the conference was given by Dr. D Jinil Persis and the dignitaries of the conference gave away the certificates to the participants. Dr. Sharmila proposed the vote of thanks. 36 research papers were presented in the conference and panel of expert members assigned for each session had reviewed the presentations meticulously and comments were given to the participants. Papers were submitted by research scholars, faculty members, PG students and professionals from industries. Researchers from Andhra Pradhesh, Kerala, Bangalore, Chennai and Singapore actively participated in the conference. The conference had participants from Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Procter & Gamble, NewGen Technologies, Wipro and TCS and participants from various colleges. The selected papers will be published in Indian Journal of Science and Technology and Hindustan Journal. Posters from SSN College of Engineering and Hindustan University competed in the poster presentation competition and the best four performers were selected by Mr. ArunPrakash, CTO, GUVI for internship awards.
