DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

The Department of Psychology in Hindustan university offers a full-time Master’s programme in Applied Psychology designed to integrate theory, research, and professional practice. The programme equips students with a strong foundation in psychological concepts, assessment methods, and evidence-based interventions. Emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking, ethical sensitivity, and research competence.  
Students receive hands-on training through practical sessions, fieldwork, thesis guidance and supervised internships across diverse settings. PROGRAMME’S EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO’S)

  • PEO1. Students will impart knowledge of psychological concepts and methods and developing ability to appreciate the challenges in field settings.
  • PEO2. Students will acquire basic skills in major areas of application (e.g., psychological testing, experimentation, counselling, interviewing, data analysis, report writing). They will develop a strong sense of ethical and moral aptness in general and in the context of learning and its assessment in particular.
  • PEO3. Students will promote self-understanding, reflexivity and personal growth and understand the complexities of self and human relationships and how the two make each other up. They will master the basic reflective, analytical, scientific writing, computational and communicative competencies and develop respect for social diversity and increasing social and cultural relevance of learning.

  • PO1: Being a member of the academic community with advanced discipline-specific knowledge and professional skills in the relevant filed with the prowess to communicate complex ideas and to engage in current critical debates with all sensitivity and fairness.

  • PO3: Ability to design and carry out independent research, to update oneself with current research trends and contemporary inputs in the discipline and to evaluate research contributions.

PROGRAMME’S SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO’s)

At the end of the Post Graduate Programme in Applied Psychology, the students will be able to:

  • PSO1: To apply the knowledge of psychological principles and theories in theirrespective area of specialization in Applied Psychology. Think critically and evaluate the problems in their area of specialization in applied Psychology and create an effective strategy to overcome the problems.
  • PSO2: To provide quality research in their respective area of specialization inApplied Psychology and contribute new knowledge. Develop their skills in the emerging areas of the field of specialization Participate in public discourses, seminar, conference and workshops and online mode on varied topics in their specialization.
  • PSO3: To develop ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, values, responsibilities and norms of applied psychology. Construct knowledge, skills, values and ability towards sustainable development for Nation building. Work effectively in their area of specialization in Applied Psychology, show multi-cultural skills, and work with consciousness and value human diversity in their area of specialization.

Eligibility

DEPARTMENT OF PSYCOLOGY

Candidates applying for admission to the programme must meet the following requirements:

1. Educational Qualification

Applicants must have successfully completed any Bachelor’s Degree (B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., BBA, BCA, B.Tech., or equivalent) from a recognized university or institution.

2. Minimum Marks Requirement

A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying undergraduate degree.

3. Discipline

Students from any academic background or discipline are eligible to apply. A prior background in Psychology is not mandatory.

4. Academic Support

Candidates who do not have prior exposure to Psychology will be provided with introductory foundation inputs in basic psychological concepts as part of the programme.

After completing MSc Applied Psychology, graduates can work as Consultant Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, School Counsellors, and Mental Health Professionals in hospitals, clinics, schools, and NGOs.

Students can pursue careers in Human Resource Management, Organizational Development, Talent Management, and Corporate Training in industries. Opportunities are also available in research, academia, higher education, and as Assistant Professors after qualifying NET/PhD. Graduates can work as Rehabilitation Professionals, Special Educators, and Behaviour Therapists. Emerging careers include Wellness Coaches, Life Skills Trainers, Career Counsellors, and Mental Health Advocates. Graduates may also choose entrepreneurship by establishing private practice, counselling centres, or digital mental health platforms.
