WORLD DRAMA FEST - 2018
Commemorating the World Theatre Day, Hindustan Masquerade Theatre club of Dept of Languages, Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) in association with ELT@I Kancheepuram chapter of Hindustan University hosted a unique event World Drama Fest - 2018. Dr Akkara Sherine, HOD, Languages, delivered the welcome address. She emphasized the need for the students to participate in the theatre activities as good academics alone will not mould the personality. Life skills and theatrical skills are vital since it enhances openness, curiosity and critical thinking among the young students. She also appreciated the Management for providing a platform for the students of HITS to be trained by professionals in theatrical skills. Dr. A. Ramesh Babu, HoD, Science and Humanities, gave a special key note address on how Theatrical Teaching is used as an art to acquire education. Ms Sonu Joseph, Asst. Professor Department of Languages introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Nivash Gopalasamy, Heads HR and training with, Crea-Shakthi. In his address he mentioned that HITS is the only engineering institution that has incorporated professional theatre training for the students. He demonstrated and engaged the audience with his theatrical skills. Overview reports on Masquerade Theatre club achievements were screened as an audio visual clip.
This was followed by Stand Up Comedy and Interlude competitions to highlight the World Drama Fest by the students of Masquerade Theatre Club. Stand up comedy was a big hit and the audience enjoyed the performance of the students, the participants indulged and showcased self depreciating humour to imaginative ones. First prize for stand up comedy was bagged by Abhiram P, 2nd prize by Lauxley Pandian, first year CSE, 3rd prize by Abhishek. The monologue session proved to be thought provoking students were at their best bringing to the fore emotional pieces that were portrayed in an exemplary manner. 1st prize was bagged by Lykha, final year EIE dept,2nd prize by Kaushik, 1st year Aero Dept and 3rd prize by Tejasv. Mr. Nivash judged both the events.
