Report on Hanbok Workshop
The five day workshop on Hanbok making was organised at the Department of Fashion, Design and Art, HITS from 08 August - 12 August 2022 in collaboration with King Sejong Institute Chennai - 2. The resource persons for the event included Prof Hwang Sun Tae, Adjunct Professor, Department of Design of Clothes , Kookmin University and Prof Um Jung-okb, Adjunct Professor, Department of Fashion Design, Youngsan University. The workshop dwelled upon creating patterns and construction of Hanbok, a traditional attire of Korea using Indian fabrics. Based on this concept, a regional illustration competition was held which saw the participation of 38 students from various colleges. The top five were invited to attend the workshop free of cost. The other participants included students from HITS and K.C. G College of Technology.
The inauguration of the workshop was held at Good Shepherd Hall. The professors were from Korea were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor, Dr S.N Sridhara. The welcome address were delivered by the Pro Vice chancellor, Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan. Dr David Easow, Head - SLAAS and Ms Sukhee Lee Head - Head of King Sejong Institute Chennai2 Interacted with the students on Korean culture, traditions and their technological advancements globally. The event meticulously organized by Dr Afrose Farid, Head - FDA and coordinated by Ms Navya Sudheer, Assistant Professor – FDA. The five-day workshop focused on the required materials, pattern making, alternate Indian material for making the Hanbok, Styling and Photoshoot.
The valedictory function was held on 12 August 2022. The Professors from Korea with a token of appreciation from the FDA Department on behalf of HITS. Dr Afrose, Dr David and Ms Sukhee Lee thanked the professors for their dedication and hard work which helped complete a complex topic in a limited time despite many pressing factors. The students also expressed thair thanks. Prof Hwang and Prof Um extended their gratitude and love to all students for their active participation and interest towards Korean culture and traditions. The function ended with a thankyou note by Ms Clara (Korean interpreter).
