The world record achievement event was organized by the Chengalpattu District Administration, Tambaram Corporation, and the Food Safety Department, Chengalpattu. A total of 650 millet dishes were displayed by 650 students from 15 different higher educational institutions. A certificate of appreciation was presented to HITS for the active support in the world record for displaying the maximum number of millet foods. The event was held at Railway Ground, East Tambaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The prime objective of the Mega Millet Mela was to create and raise awareness on the use of millets in day-to-day life, to attain food security and food sustainability, to stay healthy, and to reduce the incidence of non-communicable diseases.
Honorable Ministers, Thiru. T. M. Anbarasan, Rural Industries, Cottage Industries, Small Industries, Slum Clearance Board; Thiru. Ma. Subramanian, Minister for Health and Family Welfare; the District Collector, A. R. Rahulnath, I.A.S, Thiru. R. Alagu Meena, I.A.S, Commissioner, Corporation of Tambaram; Designated Officer Dr. T. Anuradha; and Chef Dr. Damodaran presided over the event and presented the award to the institutions and students.
The achievement was registered in the Triumph World Records on 10 March 2023. Seventy Students and five faculty from Food Technology Department participated in this event. Dr. Samuel Adeyeye, Dr. T. Sivapriya, Dr. P. Sankar Ganesh, Ms. S. Malathy, and Ms. S. Sarah Priscilla along with seventy students displayed their millet dishes.
