Fashion industry generates 100 million tons of waste which leaves a huge carbon footprint and ends up in overconsumption of fresh water and its depletion in the process. Project K.C.G. Fashion Bankaims toward a sustainable solution of minimizing wastage by repurposing, upcycling & reusing used clothes. The collected clothes will be given out to the needy who do not have the resources to buy good quality clothes for various special occasions like weddings, job interviews, etc. All back-end work like collection, sorting, cleaning and mending the donated clothes are carried out by the student-faculty team at Department of Fashion, Design and Arts, HITS. This non-revenue model will not only create awareness on various issues caused by overconsumption, but also plans to de-stigmatize re-used, re-styled and used clothes by providing coupon benefits which can be exchanged for clothes donated. It will open up employment opportunities for the local community, especially women, along with providing practical exposure to planning social drives and managing retail space to the students of the fashion design department.
