Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science commemorated the International Women’s Day and admired the greatness and valor of womanhood through various events, like Debate, Memes Contest, Power Point Presentation and Digital Poster Contest, which were given the theme of “Choose to Challenge”. The events had taken place over a period of 4 days from 8to 11 Mar. 2021.
The welcome address for the event was delivered by Dr. R.W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro ViceChancellor, HITS.He introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. Shantini Theva, Tourism Malaysian Ambassador for Tamil Nadu, Ministry of Tourism, Govt of Malaysia & Malaysian Actress; and the Guest of Honor, Dr. Saranya, Member of Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Dr. Alexander highlighted the greatness of women by saying, “the world would be incomplete without women”. He then pointed out the reality of the world, “The patriarchal system is still followed and discrimination still prevails even today after the independence of our nation, liberty of women is still not available”. He reminded that challenges are plenty in the society, but the fear that women confront should be thrashed by interpreting FEAR as “Face Everything And Rise”.
Dr. S. N. Sridhara, ViceChancellor, HITS, delivered the special address. He explained the importance of the day by appreciating women who challenge the stereotypes and the norms,“Women’s day marks the celebration of women who are changing the odds, changing the game, changing the rules and changing the future.”He advised the audience that every individual should unanimously advocate gender equality. And that it’s important to focus on educating, empowering, inspiring and motivating women and girls to access decision-making and leadership roles in all walks of life.
Dr.Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor, HITS, inaugurated the Hindustan Women Empowerment Cell and released the FemPower Logo. On delivering her Presidential Address, she disclosed the theme for Women’s Day 2021 “Choose to Challenge” with a strong emphasis on the need for women to rise above all challenges and odds like inequality, gender bias and economic disparity. She also enlightened the audience about a woman’s love and amazing ability to bind a family, by quoting, “A woman has the ability to balance both home and her career. Moreover, the modern women possess the inner strength and immense grace to amaze any men.”She concluded by stating“the bold and brave women should be celebrated for their daring acts”
The Chief Guest, Dr. Shantini Theva addressed the audience highlighting the theme ‘Choose to Change and Choose to Challenge’. She emphasized saying,“A woman should write her own story and must stand for herself and other women. They must celebrate their wins by creating their own boundaries and flaunt their success”. She concluded by reiterating that a woman should be the one who fixes the crown of another woman. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Saranyain her special address, spoke about passion in women and highlighted that companies these days emphasize on skillset, than on gender bias. She also said that women should stay healthy both physically and mentally, and strive to excel in their field of specifications. She concluded by saying, “Women should love themselves first and emanate the same love to other around them”.
Dr.Sonu Joseph, Assistant Professor, Department of Languages, HITS announced the results for the various competitions conducted as part of the International Women’s Day 2021. Winners and Runners were awarded cash prize of Rs. 2000 & Rs. 1000 each.

The Convenor of the event, Dr. Sherine Joy, Head, Department of Languages& Rankings, summarized the importance of organizing the event. The Coordinator of the event, Dr. Vallikannu, Head, Department of ECE, proposed the Vote of Thanks expressing gratitude to the Management, distinguished Guests, Coordinators andJudges of various events, Staff membersand Students who participated in the event and made it atribute to all women. She mentioned a special thanks to Ms. Nisha Nujumudeen, Assistant Professor, Economics who was instrumental to bring the Guests for the Women’s Day celebrations. HITS International Women’s Day celebration of 2021 came to a closure with a group photo session with the Guests and all the participants, capturing a memory of a tribute and love towards women who change lives and world with their immense dedication, passion, talent and love.
