The Guest Lecture, held on 4 October 2023, aimed to inculcate the knowledge on recent advances in nutrigenomics and role of diet in non-communicable diseases. The lecture was attended by the students of B.Sc and M.Sc. Food Technology.
The resource persons was Dr P.T. Srinivasan, Head, Department of Biochemistry, DG Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, Chennai. His lecture delved on Nutrigenomics and Ms. Shiny Esther, E.A, Clinic Manager, Dietitian and Sports Nutritionist, Art of Eating LLP, Alwarpet, Chennai addressed the Role of diet in non-communicable diseases.
During Session-I, the guest speaker, Dr P.T. Srinivasan spoke about the importance of nutrigenomic studies in food science and technology. He discussed the gene expression in various disease conditions. He pointed out the role of diet in the activation of metabolic pathways which can produce energy and preventing metabolic syndromes like diabetics and cancer. He further given note on future opportunities in nutrigenomics and current challenges.
During Session-II, the guest speaker Ms. Shiny Esther spoke on the role of diet in managing non-communicable diseases. She educated the audience on the lifestyle diseases and their controlling measures. She further provided guidelines to control and prevent the stress and diabetes through regular diet.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. T. Sivapriya, Head, Department of Food Technology and Dr.Marceline Puspha, Head, SLAAS delivered the inaugural address.Total 110 students participated in this event.
