The Annual Symposium 2022 - AXIMAZ: Coherence in Design – An event for the Design Community, was conducted by the School of Planning, Architecture and Design Excellence (SPADE) on October 14 and 15, 2022. The two-day event was attended by the students of SPADE, HITS and various reputed institutions, interns and practicing architects.
The first day commenced with the inauguration ceremony which was graced by the Chief Guest, Ar. Sanjay Mohe, Founder, Mindspace Architects, Bangalore. In his address, Ar. Mohe explained the process of transforming a doodle into a finished project. The Guest of Honour, Mr. Rahul B, User Experience Manager, Amazon highlighted the future of user experience design. Ar. Sushmita A J, the Special Guest and an alumnus of SPADE, HITS was the Special Guest. She recollected her memories at HITS and conveyed that it is fortunate to pursue architecture in such a reputed institution. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor, HITS. Special addresses were delivered by Ar. Vergis Oommen, distinguished visiting faculty of SPADE, and Dr. Sheeba Chander, Dean-SPADE. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Aidan Elias Sebastian of III-year B. Des. Interior Design. The Chief Guest released the Souvenir of SPADE AXIMAZ- Coherence in Design and also inaugurated the WORLD D’SIGN CENTRE.
The symposium hosted two talk series on day 1 viz. 1. Ar. Jonathan Mathew, User Experience designer, MICROSOFT spoke on “Curtains behind Architecture” and 2. Ar. Faisal Mansur, Faisal Mansur Design Studio enlightened the audience on “Amalgamation of function and emotion in interior design”. Also, the interactive session on “How to build trust with your design” by Mr. Rahul B, UX Design Manager, Amazon, was informative and beneficial for students.
The participants also underwent hands-on workshops on “Architectural Photography” by Ar. Binsen Oomen Baby, Triple O Pixel, and “VR in Architecture” by Ar. Vignesh Prem Kumar, Founder of Archijobs. Day 1 ended with cultural events where students participated in UTOPIA-the singing competition and TWIRL- UP- the dance battle.
The second day of the symposium CHIRASCURO-2022, AXIMAZ - Coherence in Design, kick started with an informative and interactive session with Ar. Sheila Sri Prakash, Founder of Shilpa Architects, on “Creating balance in Design”. The day also hosted two more talk series: 1. “Visual understanding of Buildings” by Mr. Sreenag B. R.S, an architectural photographer and 2. “Encapsulating emotions and environment” by Mr. R.V. Ramani, film maker.
The talk series were followed by interactive workshops conducted by Mr. Jacob Jebaraj - Artist and Sculptor, Cholamandal - Artist’s Village on “Scrap to Art” and “Portfolio Making” by Ar. Tahaer Zoyab, Triple O Studio. Also, fun games such as, “Water Pong”,” Battle the bottle” and “face the cookie” were conducted for the participants.
The valedictory session was held on the close of day 2 and prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions. Dr. Benny Kuriakose, Benny Kuriakose and Associates was the chief guest. She said that students must be ready for the changes in the field of architecture. Ar. P Deenadayalan, Lead Designer, KONE Elevators, the Special Guest and an alumnus of SPADE recollected his student days at HITS. The valedictory address was delivered by Dr. Sheeba Chander, Dean, SPADE and Ar. J Sudhakar, Head, SPADE, delivered the special address. Students also showcased their peculiar talents on TWIRL-UP, the dance battle, FIT-OUT- the fashion walk and STACCATO – Battle of Bands.
The CHIRASCURO-2022, AXIMAZ - Coherence in Design, was oranised effectively by the staff and students of the School of Planning, Architecture and Design Excellence (SPADE). HITS and SPADE take immense pride in congratulating the students for their diligent efforts in conducting the event.
