The Department of Fashion Design and Arts organised a workshop on Saree Draping and Styling for the final year students of B.Des. (Fahion and Apparel Design) on 20 October 2022. The objective of the workshop was to make students understand and practice different types of saree draping based on fabric type, fall, regional variations and styling methods.
The resource person for the event was Ms Jayalaskhmi, Creative Head, Jalak Art Studio. She provided hands on training on the advanced draping techniques. The training started by familiarising with the fall of a saree; building confidence by simple drapes and securing it with only three safety pins. The difficulty level was raised by exploring drapes from other states; dhoti style drapes; occasion wear drapes (bridal and formal looks); increasing and decreasing the pallu length, draping using two sarees etc. Pre-pleating and storing of silk/cotton sarees were also discussed. The workshop ended with a styling and makeover photo shoot and a thank you note.
