The unveiling of the next chapter of Hindustan – Americas Alumni Chapter (HAAC) aims to celebrate and propel the collective legacy to new heights. The Inaugural meet of the Chapter was held on 3 June 2023 at Virginia, USA. The Chief Guest was Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chairman, Hindustan Group of Institutions. The other dignitaries to grace the occasion were: Mr. Enid Verghese, Director-CODE; Dr. Manoharan N, Director-International Affairs; and Dr. Jaikumar M, Head, Department of Automobile Engineering, HITS.
Registrations of the Alumni and dignitaries from HITS started from 2PM. The event commenced at 3pm EDT sharp. Ms. Yamini Sriram (’96) was the MC. Mr. Jefferson Vikas (2010) HAAC-President welcomed the audience on behalf of HAAC Office bearers.
HITS Anthem was played followed by a prayer song by Ms. Sangeetha Agarwal (’96). Then MC gave an introduction of the event. Everyone paid their respects and tributes to the Late founder, Dr. KCG Verghese on this momentous day.
Dr. Manoharan, Director –International Affairs, HITS addressed the audience. He welcomed all the alumni to visit the campus and contribute their time and talent in any ways possible. Mr. Enid Verghese, Deputy Director, HITS, greeted the audience and wished all the alumni. Dr. M Jaikumar, HoD-Auto, HITS congratulated everyone present in the audience and showcased the videos on HGI & HITSAA.
The Chairman of HGI, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese delivered the special address. He said that it was a proud moment for every Hindustan (HGI) member. He greeted and congratulated every alumnus who made it to the meeting and specially appreciated the HAAC office bearers and the planning committee. And he emphasized the importance of alumni as one of the pillars of any institution. He welcomed the alumni to visit the campus and contribute in every way they can.
Alumni around the US and Canada had taken lot of efforts to come to Washignton DC to be part of this event. Every alumnus introduced themselves to the audience.
There were two panel discussions,
Panel 1, the topic was Sustainable Leadership and the panelists were
The discussed focused on topics such as the ability of risk taking, difference between a leader and a boss, example of Mahindra Dhoni‘s leadership qualities etc.,
The Panel 2 dealt the topic Women and Leadership: Challenges & Opportunities and the panel lists were
Maintaining a work-life balance, having a courage to show-up your leadership quality, spreading a country’s culture, communities giving opportunities for women (start-ups, retail industry, food industry), were the few topics discussed.
Following the panel discussions, a Group Discussion involving the senior and junior alumni. The discussion was an open mic session and the topic was Challenges faced by Students and how can Seniors help.
A presentation was made by the HAAC Office bearers, Mr. Jefferson Vikas (IT2010), Chapter President, Mr. Blessen (AERO2016), Chapter Treasurer, Mr. Suchandra (CSE2012), Chapter Secretary, Mr. Jayaprakash Moses (ECE'92), Chapter Vice-President, & Mr. Shyam G. (Civil-’94), Chapter ECM.
Alumni were felicitated by Chairman of HGI and other dignitaries of HGI. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Jayaprakash Moses, Chapter VP and ended with his closing remarks on the future activities of the HAA Chapter. The doors closed with Alumni networking and Dinner.
