HOST ’22 | Event Date: Wednesday, 13th, April 2022

The Department of Languages and ELTAI Kancheepuram Chapter, conducted a national event HOST’22 (Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science Online Scrabble Tournament) for Colleges and Schools on 13 and 16 April 2022. Ms. Stuthi Goyal, II Year, B.Tech. Aerospace Engineering compeered the event. Prior to the tournament, a ten-day practice session was conducted by Mr. Ranganatha Chakravarthy, International Scrabble Champion and Founder of Madras Scrabble Foundation and Mr. Niteesh Chakravarthy, II Year, B.Tech. Aerospace Engineering, Technical Coordinator. A total of 200 participants across all schools and colleges in India participated in this session and attained familiarity of the game.

The inauguration of HOST’22 began with the welcome address of Dr. Akkara Sherine, HoD, Languages & Rankings, President-ELTAI Kancheepuram Chapter, and Convenor of HOST’22. Dr. Sherine introduced the Chief Guest Mr. Ranganatha Chakravarthy and the latter announced the rules for the online event and levels of the tournament. Dr. David Easow, Head - SLASS addressed the gathering and wished them good luck. Students were paired by Mr. Ranganatha Chakravarthy and the competition was held in three rounds. Only participants holding registered scrabble IDs were permitted to play. Winners were chosen based on the points scored and the entire process was automatically done.

During the valedictory function, the prize winners were declared by Mr. Ranganatha Chakravarthy. Cash Prizes to the tune of Rs. 1000/- for the First prize, Rs. 750/- for the Second prize and Rs. 500/- for the Third prize were announced to the winners along with e-certificates. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Mr. Ben J. Milton, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Languages and Coordinator of HOST’22.
