About the Course
This course is ideal for civil engineers aspiring for a career in consulting engineering and contracting organizations and for for undergraduate engineers starting their career in the construction industry. It successfully combines Structural Engineering with Advanced Construction Management which enables one to perform at a managerial level as a consultant or contractor. Academic teaching is complemented by experts from leading Civil/Structural Engineering Consultancies and Construction Companies, enabling students to develop a wider perspective of worldwide issues. Students learn how to carry out conceptual and detailed analysis and design of standard and innovative structures and substructures under normal and earthquake actions, to latest standards, using steel and concrete. They also study the financial, legal and contractual problems associated with the construction process, and will learn how to apply one’s knowledge of management techniques and contract administration in the supervision of construction projects. Learners will also have the opportunity to carry out research and undertake industry-relevant dissertation projects.

- Practicing Engineers are called to give lectures on a wide range of topics at all stages of the course.

Candidates for admission to the first semester of the M.Tech course shall be required to have passed B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering or any other equivalent degree.
The students are to undergo practical training for 4 weeks in any Construction industry to gain practical experience and technical skills. The students are also encouraged to give seminars on current areas of research.
To acquire a high degree of engineering skills and to translate original ideas into a working reality, project work is carried out in two phases. To execute the project work, Laboratories in Structural Engineering, Strength of Materials, Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materialsare available with all facilities.
Students are groomed under high standards of program delivery and rigorous curriculum and would naturally become capable of matching with the employer’s expectations. The career opens up opportunities in numerous government departments like Central Public Works Department, Railways, Metro Rail, Highways, Indian Aluminium Limited , Public Works Department , Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited , Pollution Control Board, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Water supply and Drainage Board etc. Qualified students with sound knowledge in engineering and management can get placed as Planning Engineers, Quality Control Engineers and Project managers in Construction Companies like Gammon India Ltd., Larsen and Toubro Ltd, and Marg Ltd
