About

Dr.KCG Verghese Charitable Foundation in partnership with the Ys Men’s Club of Mylapore and the Department of Fashion, Design & Arts of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS, has started a social initiative, ‘KCG Fashion Bank’, to bridge the gap between accessibility to modest clothing by many and over use of fashion wear.

Yearly, the fashion industry generates 100 million tons of waste, which leaves a huge carbon footprint and also ends up in overconsumption of fresh water and its depletion in the process. The K.C.G. Fashion Bank project aims toward a sustainable solution of minimizing wastage by re-cycling and re-using used clothes. The present initiative will create awareness on various issues due to overconsumption, de-stigmatize re-used, re-styled and thrift clothes. It will open up employment opportunities for the local community especially women from the lower socio-economy strata. Also providing practical exposure to planning social drives, managing retail space to the students of the Fashion Design and Social Work Departments.
