The National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), Chennai, established in 2004, is a dynamic and disciplined youth organization dedicated to fostering leadership, character, and a spirit of national service among students. The NCC unit began with the Air Wing and was further strengthened in 2022 with the induction of the Army and Naval Wings, enhancing the breadth and diversity of training opportunities within the institution.
At HITS, NCC forms an integral component of the Personality Development Program, nurturing students into responsible, confident, and service-oriented citizens. The unit comprises three wings—Air Wing, Army Wing, and Naval Wing—with an equal strength of 50 cadets in each wing, totaling 150 cadets.
The Air Wing, affiliated with 1 (TN) Air Squadron NCC, offers specialized exposure to aviation-related training. Cadets are enrolled annually and are required to attend a mandatory 10-day Annual Training Camp, in addition to prestigious camps such as the National Integration Camp, Vayu Sainik Camp, and Air Force Attachment Camp. Training activities include march past, range firing, skeet shooting, microlite flying, and parasailing, ensuring both physical and technical development.
The Army Wing, affiliated with 20 Battalion NCC, emphasizes discipline, leadership, and fieldcraft through structured military training. Cadets participate in key camps such as the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC), Army Attachment Camps (10–15 days) with regular regiments, and specialized camps like the ThalSainik Camp (TSC). They are also selected for prestigious national-level camps including the National Integration Camp (NIC) and the Republic Day Camp (RDC), which provide exposure to national integration and leadership excellence.
The Naval Wing, affiliated with 4 (TN) Naval Tech NCC, delivers comprehensive maritime training. Cadets take part in specialized camps such as the NauSainik Camp (NSC), All India Sea Training Camps, ship attachment programmes, and sailing regattas, along with the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC). These activities focus on seamanship, navigation, boat pulling, and basic naval warfare, while also strengthening teamwork and endurance.
Across all three wings, NCC training at HITS is designed to instill discipline, camaraderie, secular values, leadership, and a spirit of adventure and selfless service. The programme aims to create a pool of well-trained, motivated, and socially responsible youth equipped with leadership qualities, ready to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation. It also serves as a strong platform to inspire and prepare students for careers in the Armed Forces.
