International Women’s Day was celebrated on 6 March 2026 with great enthusiasm and participation. The event featured Ms. Dhakshayini Venkatesh, Advocate at the Madras High Court, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Susan Verghese, Vice President, HGI, and Director of HCAS and HCC, attended as the Special Guest. The programme was presided over by Dr. Vikas Mishra, Vice President.
In her address, Ms. Dhakshayini Venkatesh began by reciting a poem on women by the renowned Tamil poet Kavimani Desigavinayagam Pillai. The poem beautifully celebrated the strength and significance of women and their indispensable role in shaping society. She remarked that although women stand as pillars of their families and communities, many continue to struggle for their rights. She emphasised that every woman possesses an inner strength and determination that must inspire her to move forward. Highlighting the importance of education, she encouraged young women to become aware of their rights and responsibilities, as knowledge empowers them to overcome challenges in life. She concluded by urging women to dream boldly and nurture their dreams with care and commitment, much like a child cherished in the womb.
Delivering the Special Address, Dr. Susan Verghese spoke about the inspiring life of the Founder Chancellor, describing her as a remarkable example of women’s empowerment. She noted that the Founder Chancellor was the first Lady Chancellor in India, a distinction achieved through determination, dedication, and capability. Born in a small village in Kerala, she pursued engineering and later joined government service in Tamil Nadu. Dr. Susan highlighted how the Founder Chancellor not only excelled in her professional career but also played a significant role in supporting her family. She concluded by referring to the life of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani education activist and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, whose courage and perseverance in pursuing education despite adversity continue to inspire young women across the world.
In his Presidential Address, Dr. Vikas Mishra emphasised that women are an integral force in shaping society. He observed that women are no longer regarded as the weaker section of society, as they possess the resilience and determination to overcome challenges. According to him, this remarkable strength naturally equips women to become effective leaders. He also acknowledged the strong presence and contribution of women at HITS and appreciated the dedication of the female faculty and staff who contribute significantly to the growth and success of the institution.

In addition, prizes were distributed to the winners of competitions organised as part of the Women’s Day celebrations. The competitions included Quiz, Rangoli, Handcraft, Mehendi, Dual Dance, Dual Band, and Miss HITS. Both staff and students participated enthusiastically, making the celebration lively and memorable.
