On the vibrant morning of 28 October 2023, the MGR Auditorium at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) reverberated with excitement and anticipation as the first-year students of Liberal Arts, Applied Sciences, and SAHS showcased their remarkable talents during the much-anticipated "VIBRANCE 2023 - Freshers Talent Hunt" event.
The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Anant Melatur, an illustrious alumnus of HITS (Mech-1998) and the Regional Director of Boeing India. Mr. Anant Melatur, in his compelling address, emphasized the significance of curiosity in students, emphasizing that being curious is more important than securing high marks. He encouraged students to delve into what drives them and make the most of the access and facilities available at HITS.
The event commenced with the opening prayer offered by Rev. Justin Jose, the Student Chaplain. The resonant notes of "Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu" filled the air, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. The event proceeded with the stirring rendition of the University Anthem, accompanied by the presentation of the Dr. K.C.G. Verghese documentary, which served as a testament to the enduring legacy and contributions of the esteemed founder.
Dr. David T. Easow, the Deputy Director of International Affairs, extended a warm welcome to the fresh minds, emphasizing the opportunities and global exposure awaiting them at HITS. He highlighted the various international programs, including industrial visits, internships abroad, dual degree programs, joint degree programs, and the International Language and Cultural Centre, encouraging students to broaden their horizons and engage in diverse learning experiences.
In his inaugural address, Dr. R.W. Alexander Jesudasan, the Pro Vice Chancellor, emphasized that education goes beyond textbooks and examinations. He underscored HITS's role in nurturing students into holistic individuals, citing examples of iconic figures like Sachin Tendulkar and Bill Gates, and urged students to appreciate and nurture their unique talents while finding a purpose in their lives.
Later the day, the freshmen entertained the audience with cultural events such as classical dance, fusion, music, and martial arts. The event concluded with the National Anthem.
