“YARONA 2019”
A vibrant and humongous Inter-Departmental Cultural Fest “YARONA 2019” was hosted by on 29 and 30 , March 2019. Known for pulling the best talented students, the pre-registration process started two weeks prior to the fest by student council members manually and also through online. Mr. J. Prabhu Dhanasekar, Spring Boots and Mr. B. Royson, Cultural Coordinator were key individuals in organizing the programme.
Following the formal programme, a host of cultural events such as Indian & Western group dance, solo singing, Street play, Solo/Duet Dance, Clash of bands, Western music group, Rap & Beat boxing, classical dance solo, classical instrumental solo, classical vocal solo, Adzap, mime, mimicry, stand-up comedy, face painting, junk art, puddle jumper, stack attack, eat the cookies, watermelon mania, cinematic events: Lights camera action; Groove on beats; Diehard fan; Cine quiz, etc., Woofer ON with dance, Rain dance, Treasure hunt, Tug-of-war, solo musical instrumental, Clash of bands, Light music group, DJ war, Fashion show, group dance, channel surfing, super human, mono acting, theatre, cooking without fire, full of hot air, This blows, Don’t blow the kings, etc., held concurrently at nine different venues such as: OAT, K. S. Moorthy Hall, MGR Auditorium, Parabola, Freedom Zone, Jubilee Block, Tennis Court, Parkour Training Centre and Campus Premises. Around 250 student volunteers and 210 faculties were actively involved in successfully organizing the YARONA 2019. The celebration saw a huge contingent of cultural troupes numbering about 423 teams and 1647 (Boys 846, Girls 801) for 47 events. The fest witnessed an increased number of participants from various Schools/Departments. The veteran experts in their respective fields and senior level Professors contributed hugely in the smooth running of the magnificent event like YARONA. The field experts headed for the venues, organised the events, judged the performances and submitted their scores to the scoring committee. The scoring committee in turn consolidated the scores and prepared the list of prize winners and submitted to the prize distribution committee.
On the second day, 30 th march 2019, the YARONA 2019 Fes followed up the events began on the first day and consolidated the results of various events by the scoring committee. Based on the overall scores, the results were prepared and sent to the prize distribution committee.
Dr. Ashok G. Verghese, the Director, HITS honored the valedictory function held at the Main Ground in the evening and declared the result for the YARONA 2019 cultural competitions. The Chief Guest for the event, a playback singer Mr. Haricharan, conferred the overall championship and rolling trophy on the School of Science and Humanities and the runner up for the cultural event was the Department of Aeronautical Engineering. The other winners of various events were also announced in the evening celebrations. As thunderous applause rented the night sky, Ms. Khimavath Dharana, the Vice President of Hindustan Student Council delivered the vote of thanks to mark the successful conclusion of the fest. Finally, the Fest ended with few more performances of Mr. Haricharan and his team. The YARONA 2019 ended up in a high enthusiastic note, making it both a memorable and a great learning experience for all of us. In the end, it was a delight for the hearts, minds and soul for all those who present at the occasion particularly the Students of HITS.
