The second edition of Track Day was organized by Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science(HITS)on 10April 2022 in MMRT, Irungattukottai, Chennai.Conducted under the aegis of Dr. Ashok G. Verghese, Director, HITS, and Motorsports Division, Department of Automobile Engineering, HITS, the Track Day was an apttraining programme for students of Hindustan Group of Institutionsand others toshowcase their skills on the race track with their own bikes and cars. Being an exclusive event for the student’s fraternity and professional racing community, Track Daygave an exposure towards race track functions, learn about racing lines, apex line, get to know more on control of body over the vehicle etc.
A total number of 27 vehicles participated at the Track Day; amongst them,12 gave entry for cars and 15 for bikes. From professional riding club 6 bikes and a car participated.Participants underwent 3hrs. of training under the supervision of MMRT & Wallace Sports Research Foundation trainers along with national champion participant, Mr. Arun Vaithiyanathan from Gusto Racing.The theory session on racing and vehicle handling was handled by Mr. Raghavendran, Motorsports Head, HITS.The learning outcomes of the training program included body roll, bike agility maneuvering, racing lines, how to take corners, track apex and briefing on Marshal flag colors and their meanings.
Hindustan has always promoted competitive culture towards racing which had resulted in 7 Championships and 3 Podium finishes in last five years.The innovative teaching learning process practiced at HITS has been a highlight among students’ community. Along with the students, their parents also visited and enjoyed the Track Day.
