The Ponnonam 2023 was celebrated in the Bay Range Campus on 19 August 2023. The celebration was graced by the presence of Mr. Ashok Verghese, Pro Chancellor; Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. K. S. Shaji, Dean, Ms. Beena James, Head (i/c) – Student Affairs; Deans, Heads of Departments, staff and students.
In his Onam message, Mr. Ashok Verghese conveyed his Onam wishes to the august gathering and welcomed the Thirumali Music Band. He then pointed out that the state of Kerala is a beautiful land that holds rich tradition and culture. He then narrated a personal experience where he had to travel alongside the Chief Minister, a few prominent statesmen and high-profile personalities of Kerala. Mr. Verghese said that this gesture of them exhibited their humility and insists that as citizens it is the responsibility of every citizen to take care of these. As charity begins at home, it is the responsibility of the youth to respect and honour the aged. He also informed that the total student strength at Hindustan Group of Institutions has increased to 20,000. He also encouraged students to participate in all the events hosted inhouse.
Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, in his felicitation address said that Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science is a secular Institution that celebrates all religious and regional festivals with equal importance. He informed the gathering that HITS has launched two new programmes viz., School of Pharmacy and School of Nursing and has plans to commence the School of Performing Arts. He encouraged the students to participate in music competitions in order to win laurels to the Institution. He concluded his speech with his Onam wishes.
The celebration commenced with an invocation song rendered by Ms. Kiran, Research Scholar, Department of Chemistry followed by the welcome address by Ms. Alisha Jamal, IV-year Aerospace Engineering. The enthralled audience were entertained by a professional Kathakali dancer and the Chenda Melam performers. They also witnessed the Thiruvathira Dance and the traditional Mohiniattam. To add to the excitement, a massive students’ flash mob dazzled the audience. The pinnacle of the day was a scintillating music concert by Thirumali and Thudweiser, leaving everyone enchanted. The highlight of this event was the grand Onam Sadhya, a feast for the senses, showcasing the rich culinary traditions of Kerala. The celebration concluded with the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. K Mathew, IV-year Electronics and Communication Engineering.
