Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science celebrated Pongal ’26, the traditional harvest festival of Tamil Nadu, with great enthusiasm on 10th January 2026, in association with KCG College of Technology. The event was conducted at the Open Air Theatre (OAT) and MGR Auditorium, bringing together students, faculty, and staff in a vibrant display of culture and unity.
The celebration was organized by the HITS Student Council under the guidance of the Student Affairs Department, with the objective of promoting cultural heritage, encouraging student participation, and fostering a sense of community and gratitude.
The event commenced at 8:30 AM at the Open Air Theatre with a series of traditional and creative competitions. Students actively participated in events such as Rangoli, Pongal Making, Clay Modelling, Drawing, Solo Folk Dance, Solo Folk Music, Traditional Ramp Walk, Elocution, Patti Mandram, Art out of Waste, and Pot Painting. The venue was filled with vibrant colors, traditional music, and energetic participation, reflecting the true spirit of Pongal.
The competitions were evaluated based on creativity, authenticity, and presentation, making the session both engaging and competitive. Students showcased remarkable talent while reconnecting with traditional art forms and cultural practices.
The evening cultural celebrations began at 2:00 PM at the MGR Auditorium with a traditional band welcome and procession, setting a festive tone. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries including the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Dean of Student Affairs, and distinguished guests.
The program featured captivating performances such as Karakattam, Mayilattam, Madattam, and Thappattam, along with a special Silambam performance, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s rich cultural heritage. A special performance by the HITS Dance Team further energized the audience.
The Prize Distribution Ceremony recognized winners of the competitions, celebrating their creativity and effort. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks, followed by the distribution of Pongal and sugarcane, symbolizing prosperity and gratitude. A Bullock Cart Ride added a traditional rural touch to the celebration.
Pongal ’26 was a grand success, reflecting the spirit of togetherness, cultural pride, and student engagement. The event beautifully blended tradition with celebration, leaving lasting memories and reinforcing the institution’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage.
