National Unity Day to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel was celebrated on 31 October 2018. The day, also regarded as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, fostered and reinforced our need to dedicate and strengthen unity, integrity, and security of our nation. Dr. T. Manivel Raj, Dean, Student Affairs delivered a lecture followed by oath taking.
About Rashtriya Ekta Diwas: The day intents to pay tribute to Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founding leaders of India who was instrumental in keeping India united. It celebrates the birthday of Patel because, during his term as Home Minister of India, he is credited for the integration of over 550 independent princely states into India from 1947-49 by Independence Act 1947. This day that celebrates unity and endurance is devoted by the Government of India and inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. In 2018 the holiday was celebrated in Gujarat with the dedication of the Statue of Unity, the largest statue in existence, which honors and depicts Patel.
