Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) has added another flagship program “Advanced Master’s Program in Aviation Safety Management” in collaboration with the Internationally renowned and France based School of Aviation: Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC). The launch ceremony of this program was held on 18 April 2023 and was orgranized by the Department of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering. In connection to the launch ceremony A Conclave on “Aviation Safety Management” was also orgranized in which stakeholders from the different fields of aviation participated and presented their views on the necessity of Safety Management System (SMS) in Aviation Safety Management.

Vice Chancellor Dr. S. N. Sridhara welcomed the dignitaries. Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, Founder CEO & MD BrahMos, Professor Emeritus (Research), delivered the special address on the military aircraft safety management and civilian aircrafts. He also highlighted on the safety risks which is much needed in handling the reusable launch vehicles. Capt. Hemant Kumar, V.P & Chief of Flight Safety, Indigo gave a wonderful talk on safety management systems and the much-needed System for training the air safety officers and the crew members working in airlines. The special guest Dr. Lalit Gupta, Former JDG, DGCA highlighted the importance of aviation safety in the airlines industry and how the safety mitigation risks are identified and handled. He said that this is the most needed program in India which is launched by Hindustan University in collaboration with ENAC. The presidential address was given by Dr. Aby Sam, Executive Director, HITS.
Mr. Nicolas Cazalis, Vice President of ENAC in his address highlighted the uniqueness of the Advanced Master’s Program in Aviation Safety Management. He said that the curriculum of the program is in-line with the strategic objectives set by the ICAO Global Aviation Safety Plan and Roadmap and thereby aims at training Safety Managers and it is best suited for employed officials. This program is mainly designed for those who want to consider positions such as Safety Managers in Airline, Airport, MRO and related professionals of the Aviation Industry. He also thanked the management of Hindustan Institute of Technology and science for joining hands with ENAC to launch the program in India. During this event the Brochure and Video promo for the program was unveiled by the dignitaries. The mementos for the dignitaries were presented by Mr. Enid Verghese Jacob, Deputy Director, HITS. Dr. R. Asokan, Dean (Aviation) delivered the vote of thanks.
A Conclave on Aviation Safety Management has provided a forum for industry experts, regulators, and other stakeholders to discuss and share best practices for ensuring the safety of aviation operations. This Conclave is focussed on various aspects of aviation safety management, including risk assessment, safety culture, training and competency, and incident reporting, investigation, and Artificial Intelligence in Safety Management System (SMS). Participants got the overall view of emerging technologies and innovative approaches to safety management, as well as the evolving regulatory landscape and its impact on aviation safety. By bringing together a diverse range of perspectives and experiences, this Conclave threw light on a safer and more efficient aviation industry, ultimately benefiting passengers, employees, and other stakeholders alike.
