An International Workshop on “Sustainable Energy and Smart Grid” funded by Royal Academy of Engineering, UK and a part of Newton - Bhabha funded project was organized by the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on 8 and 9 August 2019. University of Leeds, UK and KCG College of Technology, Chennai were the Academic collaborators of the workshop.
Chief Guest Shri N. Nallarasan, GM (SO & PSDF), NLDC, Power System Operation Corporation Ltd., New Delhi delivered the keynote address on “Indian Power System Scenario.” Dr. R. Gnanadass, Professor, Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry lectured on “Smart Distribution Grid – Indian Case Study.” Dr. Petros Aristidou, Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, University of Leeds, UK delivered a video lecture on “Active Distribution Networks.” UK Collaborator Dr Joseph Antony, Associate Professor, School of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Leeds, UK discussed on “Improving sustainability and energy efficiency in particulate material engineering processes.” “Storage Technology for Smart Grid” was delivered by Dr. R. Velraj, Professor & Director, Anna University, Chennai. Dr. Sakthi Ganesh, Managing Director, Velev Motors, Chennai deliberated on “Overview of Electrical Vehicle Technology.” “Artificial Intelligence for Renewable Energy” was delivered by Dr. Umashankar S., Associate Professor, Prince Sultan University, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Uppu Ramachandraiah, Professor and Head, Electrical Sciences, and Dr A K Parvathy, Professor, EEE, HITS, Chennai discoursed on “IoT for Electrical Systems” and “Hybrid Energy Management using Cyber Physical Controller” respectively. Around 100 participants including students and faculty from various institutions were present on both days of the workshop.
