The International Women’s Day 2019 was celebrated for a week at Hindustan University with a lot of enthusiasm and involvement from students and staff. Several competitions were conducted to commemorate the celebrations including Rangoli (Theme: Nature exemplifies balance), Digital Poster (Theme: Injustice stems for imbalance), PPT (Theme: Balance for Better), Cooking without Fire (Theme: Summer special), Debate for Staff (Theme: Balance is equality and not reservation) and Debate for Students (Theme: Engineering for girl students) which incited fervent participation from all. The main celebration was held on 7 March 2019. Ms. Jayashree Mitra, Senior Vice President, Standard Charted Bank, Chennai presided over the event as the Chief Guest. Ms. Jayashree Mitra, in her address on ‘Women in their Professional Career’ highlighted the hurdles encountered by women; and offered solutions to overcome them. Her video clippings were well appreciated by the audience. She further addressed students on the topic ‘Future makers’. The prize winning PPT on ‘Balance for Better’ was presented by Ms. Daisy Priya, Lab Instructor, HITS. The event concluded with prize distribution for the winners of competitions.
