An International Seminar on “Smart Transportations and Infrastructure” was organized by department of Civil Engineering on 22 August 2019. Professor T. P. Somasundaran, Dean PG Studies and HoD Civil Engineering introduced the background of the seminar to the participants and welcomed the distinguished speakers. Prof. Dr. Ing. Roland Trapp, Head, Civil Engineering, Service Engineering and Food Technology, Trier University of Applied Sciences, Germany; and Dr. K. Gunasekaran, Ph.D, Professor & Head, Division of Transportation Engineering, Dept. of Civil Engineering, Anna University were the distinguished speakers of the event. While the former addressed on “Traffic Safety in Road Infrastructure” briefing the German Road safety initiatives towards ‘Vision Zero,’ the latter drew an interesting case study on bus services in OMR corridor in his lecture on “Optimal Scheduling of Bus Operations.” Over 150 students and 25 faculties from department of Civil Engineering and Architecture attended the seminar. The event also observed five students from Trier University of Applied Sciences, Germany who were a part of the delegation from Germany on a visit to HITS between 16 and 23 August 2019.
