School of Physical Education and Sports Science organized International Day of Yoga’21 (IDY) which focused on celebrating and honoring the national “way of life” and spreading awareness among the students on 21 June 2021.Ms. Jane Carolyn, Pre-final Year B.Tech., Cyber Security hosted the event conducted on Google Meet.
Dr. A Prabaharan, Head, Student Affairs and Professor, Sociologywelcomed the gathering and introduced the origin of IDY. Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor delivered the Presidential address. Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor offered felicitation, wherein he illustrated an emotional incident that took place at a Wimbledon that depicted Yoga’s power to move our minds and souls to strengthen in positivity even in trials. Dr. Pon Ramalingam, Registrar, gave felicitation for the event, and appreciated the efforts of the organizers to popularize the ancient method of body and mind unification – Yoga.
The keynote speaker was Yogacharni Dr. S. Loganayaki, Founder of Loga Yogalaya, who spoke about a variety of issues impacting the students. She said, “Yoga improves flexibility and respiration with umpteen number of physical benefits including communicable COVID19 and non-communicable diseases like hypertension, and also gives healing to several mental issues and promotes calmness, improves attention and concentration”.She also demonstrated that Prayer, Kriya,Sukhsma Vyayma,Sun Salutation, Asanas, Pranayama, Mudhra, Bandhra and Meditation giving the audience a bird’s eye view of the entire Yoga routine that is to be included in our daily lives to attain maximum goodness of health and mental sanity.
