The School of Planning, Architecture & Design Excellencein association with IIID, Chennai Regional Chapter conducted an OnlinePanel discussionon “Interior Design Trends for a Contemporary Indian Demographic”on 16 Apr. 2021. The guestswere Ar. Kamal Kumar Periwal, Principal Architect, Maheshwari & Associates, Chairman IIID Kolkata; Ar. Mayur Shah, Principal Architect, Mayur Shah & Associates, Chairman IIID Vadodara; and Ar. Ranna Nayan Parikh, Principal Architect, Ranna Parikh Architect & Interior Design, Chairperson IIID Ahmedabad. Students of B.Arch.& B.Des. Faculty members of SPADE, and external members participated.
The Panel discussion was moderated by Ar. Deepa Sam, Associate Professor, SPADE. Questions were asked to each of the guests based on the Trends for the habitat of Indian demographic. Discussions on sustainable practices in Interior Design were made where the architects shared ideas of their own. Other topics of panel discussion were Interior Design education, new challenges for Interior designers, designing for the urban nomad, role of digital technology in Interior Design and the reach and availability of Interior Design to the masses. The impact of COVID situation on the profession of interior design were also discussed and the guests shared their views on the challenges they face and foresee.
The discussions were very motivational to the students as ideas on successful entrepreneurships were discussed by the guests Studentswere asked to learn to be team players right from the beginning and to be aware of their strengths. Ideas and scope on Master’s Degree programme were also discussed by the students.
