The Department of Languages and the Office of the International Affairs organized the Inauguration of the French Café Literary Club and Seminar on “Scholarships and Opportunities for Higher Education in France” on 6 February 2020. Mr. Eric Perrotel, Attaché de Cooperation for French Language was the Chief Guest. In the welcome address,Dr. G. Ilavazhagan, Director, International Affairs highlighted the association of HITS with French Universities through MoUs for student exchange programmes. Dr. Sreekumar, Dean, SOM & LAS, in his special address highlighted the beauty of the French culture, movies and literature. Mr. Perrotel in his address said that France and French language is not only restricted to its culture, cuisine and movies; rather it offers a wide range of opportunities and specializations for foreign students. On inaugurating the French Café, he invited the HITS fraternity to participate in different events conducted by Alliance Française, Chennai.Ms. Clarisse Rouabah, Assistant Professor, French detailed the audience on the various activities of the French Café Literary Club in Hindustan.
Ms. Rhea Shivan, Manager, Campus France, Chennai, gave an overview on the various opportunities that students and staff can avail in order to study in Universities in France. She informed that there are about 1600 programmes in France that are taught exclusively in English language, and also French is not a mandatory requirement for foreign students. She also said that public universities in France offer a huge subsidy in Tuition Fee and also offer 500 scholarships at different levels. Ms. Rhea informed about the Charpak Scholarship offered to Indian students at the internship, exchange and masters levels and explained each level in detail. Rhea’s talk also highlighted on the top 500 French companies based in India who are looking forward to recruit Indian students with a French exposure and experience. Dr.AkkaraSherine, Head, Department of Languages and Rankingshighlighted the courses offered in French language at HITS and how more than 500 students of engineering and liberal arts are benefited by the course till date. In her vote of thanks, she expressed her profound gratitude to Mr. Eric Perrotel, and Management of HITS for the support rendered to promote foreign languages at HITS.
