The ASHRAE Student Chapter at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) was inaugurated on 5 March 2026 at 2.00 PM in Andromeda Hall. The establishment of the chapter marks an important milestone in promoting technical knowledge, research, and professional development in the fields of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, energy efficiency, and sustainable building technologies.
The event was graced by distinguished guests from ASHRAE including Mr. Bill McQuade – Chapter President, ASHRAE; Mr. Pankaj Dharkar – Director and Regional Chair, Region XV, ASHRAE; Mr. Biswanath Sen – President, ASHRAE Chennai Chapter; and Dr. Kabilan – Regional Vice Chair, Region XV, ASHRAE. The university leadership present included Dr. Ashok George Verghese – Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Vikas Misra – Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Muralikrishna – Director, IQAC.
The program began with an invocation song, followed by a traditional classical dance performance by students of HITS. The dignitaries then participated in the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing knowledge and the beginning of the new student chapter. A felicitation ceremony was conducted to honor the distinguished guests.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Muralikrishna, while the inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Vikas Misra, who emphasized the importance of professional organizations in engineering education. Dr. Ashok George Verghese, in his presidential address, highlighted the role of HVAC technologies in achieving energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure.
Guest speakers shared insights on ASHRAE activities, global opportunities for students, and the future of sustainable HVAC technologies. The event concluded with the vote of thanks, followed by a group photograph and the National Anthem.
The ASHRAE Student Chapter at HITS will serve as a platform for technical learning, research, industry interaction, and global professional engagement for students.
