Hyperloop Orcapod Unveiled at HITS
Hyperloop, the proposed fifth mode of transportation, has caught everyone’s attention ever since Elon Musk floated the idea. With Elon Musk's Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) agreement with the AP govt to connect the two cities of Vijayawada and Amaravathi, the hyperloop fever has caught up across the nation. Hyperloop India, a team of students from various BITS colleges proposed a Mumbai-Chennai route that would provide east-west connection across India. Hyperloop India, which counts Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS), Chennai, as one of its sponsors, also participated in the Spacex Hyperloop pod competition held in August, for which it built a demo model of its OrcaPod, which it raced at the SpaceX headquarters in California.
The Hyperloop OrcaPod was unveiled for display at HITS campus today (12-03-18) by Dr. Ashok G. Verghese, Director, HITS and Dr.Kuncehria P.Isaac, Vice Chancellor, HITS.
Unveiling the OrcaPod, Mr.Ashok Verghese said, “ The progress achieved by Hyperloop India team is a motivator to several young Indians who wish to try their hands on innovation to put the country on the development path. Faster mobility coupled with sustainability at affordable cost make hyperloop an attractive choice for implementation in our country.”
Dr.Kuncheria P.Isaac said, “Youngsters should channelize their energies to take efforts in developing cutting edge technologies that shall change the way people live their lives. Hyperloop is one such idea that shall disrupt the mobility space across the globe. When congestions are removed from mobility, the pace of development will be faster.”
The enthusiastic students of HITS and other colleges/schools from Chennai, thronged the display area of Orcapod and had a detailed interaction with the Hyperloop India team in batches. Mr.Kiran, Mr.Prithvi S. Pillai and Mr.Hari from the Hyperloop India team shared in detail the Hyperloop experience to batches of students. The students interacted on both the technical aspects and team aspects of the Hyperloop Orcapod experience.
