Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Energy Management of Electric Motor System in Industry” with Dr. Gobbi Ramasamy, Associate Professor, Multimedia University, Malaysia as the invited speaker on 22 March 2019. The guest lecture was attended by 2 nd and 3 rd year EEE students. Dr. Ramasamy gave an overview of industrial projects and consultancy carried out in his department. He stated, “Industries consume at least 50% of electric energy through electric motor systems. Since energy is getting costly, industries now are looking for ways to improve the efficiency of the motor system while maintaining the production rate. For this reason, many high efficiency motors (HEMs) are developed besides advanced power electronics drives system. However, the inclusion of the new motors and the drives system may not help to reduce energy cost; instead may contribute for longer down time.”
