The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Development of Electromagnetic Devices for Fast Breeder Reactor Application” on 7 February 2019. Whilst Dr. Uppu Ramachandraiah, Professor & Head, Department of Electrical Sciences emphasized the need for Industry-Institute interaction, Dr. Baby Joseph, Dean-Research stressed the importance of research in renewable energy sector and its dissemination to society. He encouraged participation in active and collaborative research. Dr. B. K. Nashine, Associate Director, IGCAR, Kalpakkam was the resource person for the day.
Dr. Nashine gave an overview of developments carried out in the field of Electromagnetic devices for Fast Breeder Reactor application at IGCAR under his initiative. Some of the major devices discussed at the session were: DC Conduction Pump, Annular Linear Induction Pump, AC Conduction Pump, Magnetic Flow Meters, and Level Probes.
Dr. B. K Nashine is a veteran Electrical Engineer with 31 years of experiences in the field. He graduated his B.E. Electrical Engineering in 1985, and obtained M.E in Control System in 1990. Dr. Nashine was awarded his doctoral degree in Electromagnetic Pump in 2016. His specific area of expertise is Electrical System Design for Experimental Sodium Loop and Development of Electromagnetic Device for Fast Breeder Reactor. Dr. Nashine’s expertise in the field is recognised with “Scientific and Technical Excellence Award” bestowed on him by the Department of Atomic Energy. Dr. Nashine’s experiences also ranges from being a member of the Planning Committee of Govt. of India &Tamil Nadu and also the Bureau of Indian Standard Committee, Govt. of India.
