The HGI fraternity gathered to commemorate the 85th Founder’s Day on 19 June 2025 at the Bay Range Campus. The day also marked the dedication of the Founder Chancellor’s Block at HITS. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour for the event were Thiru. Mano Thangaraj, Minister of Milk and Dairy Development, Government of Tamil Nadu and Rt. Rev. Dr. Gregorios Mar Stephanos Episcopa, Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church respectively.
The dedication service of the Founder Chancellor’s Block – Dr, Elizabeth Verghese Centre for Excellence and Empowerment was also held on that day. The event was graced by Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Founder Chancellor; Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor; Dr. Ashok George Verghese, Pro Chancellor; Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Muthukumar Subramanian, Registrar, directors, deputy directors, deans, heads of departments, faculty, staff and students of HITS. The building was blessed and dedicated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Gregorios Mar Stephanos Episcopa, Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.
During the 85th Founder’s Day Celebration, the Chancellor reflected on the legacy of Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, remembering him not merely as a builder of infrastructure but as a visionary who built dreams. He recalled the Founder’s guiding vision: “To Make Every Man a Success and No Man a Failure.” The Chancellor announced that the newly inaugurated Founder Chancellor’s Block – Dr. Elizabeth Verghese Centre for Excellence and Empowerment would serve as a hub for innovation, rooted in discipline, faith, and excellence. He also highlighted the recent achievements, including an MoU with TANCAM for training in Dassault Systems and a ₹17 crore initiative with NSDC and Ethnotech to establish ten Centres of Excellence in emerging technologies. Additional MoUs have been signed with institutions in the UK, Macau, Korea, and Thailand. He also noted the foundation stone laying of a pilot training academy at Kurnool Airport. As the new academic year began, the Chancellor urged the community to recommit to purposeful learning and compassionate leadership.
Thiru. Mano Thangaraj, Minister for Milk and Dairy Development in his Chief Guest address pointed out to the vision of the Founder Dr. K. C. G. Verghese: “To Make Everyman a Success and No Man a Failure” and said that it takes courage and also shows the positivity the man had possessed to discern such a vision. He also pointed out that there are many opportunities for those who have the right skills. He then continued to emphasize that every student should be aware of unity and peace in a world of hatred and war. He advised the student fraternity of HGI to hold Dr. K. C. G. Verghese as their role model in their lives. The statesman concluded by wishing HGI to flourish and contribute to the development of the country.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Gregorios Mar Stephanos Episcopa Bishop of Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church in his special address remarked that the 85th Founder’s Day Celebration marks the celebration of the life of Dr. K. C. G. Verghese who lived to God’s fulfilment. The thirumeni pointed out that the Institution which was started as a tutorial has now grown in leaps and bounds. He said that this is because of the strong faith of Dr. K. C. G. Verghese in the He concluded his speech by urging the young minds to live a life like the Founder by committing and dedicating their life by standing and committing their lives to truth, unity and peace.
Earlier, the event commenced with thamizh thai vazhthu and the opening prayer rendered by Rev. Ninu Chandy Chennai-Bangalore Diocesan Secretary. The welcome address was delivered by Col. (Hon.) Dr. S. N. Sridhara. Dr. M. Rajaram, IAS (Retd.) paid his tribute to the Founder. The felicitation address was delivered by Mr. S. S. Balaji, MLA, Thiruporur Constituency. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. M. Muthukannan, Principal, KCG College of Technology. A medley and cultural performance were rendered by the students of Hindustan International Schools from Karapakkam and Padur respectively.
