The birth anniversary of(Late) Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, 20 June, is celebrated as the Founder’s Day. Hindustan Group of Institutions observed the 81st Birth Anniversary Celebration of the visionary, Founder-Chairman, (Late) Dr. K.C.G. Verghese on 20 June 2021, Sunday in a gracious way. The event was premiered live on YouTube from 11.30 a.m. onwards. Dr. I. R Praveen Joe, Associate Professor CSE, KCG College of Technology; and Mrs. Vidya Louis, Project Head, HISTAR, HIS compered the event.
The opening Hymn, “Bless the Lord, O my Soul,” rendered by the students of Hindustan International School, Padur marked the opening of the celebration. The rendition was followed by an opening prayer by Rev. Zachariah Alexander, Vicar of St. Paul’s Mar Thoma Church, Adayar and Bible reading from 1 Thessalonians 5:12-24 by Mrs. L. Esther Thamaraine, HOD, Commerce, Hindustan College of Arts & Science. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science.
Dr. DeivaSundari, Principal of KCG College of Technology, Karapakkam read an excerpt from founder’s Autobiography, “Wheels and Wings” Chapter 11, entitled as “The Fountain of Knowledge”. The excerpt threw light on the Founder’s belief: “Every human being has infinite potential. The role of an educator is to bring out the best in every individual and that of an educational institution to provide the best facilities and the right ambience.
In my opinion, the man who is thirsty should get water. The man who is hungry must be fed. The man who is thirsty for knowledge must be provided with a learning environment. This is what educational institutions are for”. It was his passion, undeterred will, and above everything, the noble heart which longed to give opportunity to every learner, irrespective of marks, that earned this philanthropist an irreplaceable place at all our hearts.
Capt. K.S. Bhardwaj, Chief Flight Instructor, Orient Flights Aviation Academy, Mysore, gave a brief introduction about the Chairperson of HGI Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese and invited her for the presidential address. Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese shared about the passion and vision of (Late) Dr. K.C.G. Verghese in nation building and also about his personal life as a good human being. Following this, Dr. G. Ilavazhagan, Director International Affairs, narrated a short profile of the Chief Guest, Padma Shri. Dr. K. M Cherian, Chairman and CEO of Frontier Lifeline Hospital and Frontier Mediville and invited him for offering a special tribute to the Founder. Dr. K. M. Cherian highlighted the life incidents from which he got inspired from Dr. K.C.G. Verghese and how he can be a role model to anyone. Dr. K.M. Cherian also expressed his happiness to be associated with HGI in providing Allied Health Sciences programmes for the medical aspirants.
The programme also observed Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director of Hindustan College of Arts and Science; and Rev. Dr. Baby Joseph, Dean Research of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science speaking about the different Covid Relief Activitiescarried out by the KCG Charitable Trust. And, Dr. Jaikumar, HOD, Automobile Engg. expressing gratitude to the representatives of Trier University of Applied sciences, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Koenig,, Head, Institute for Automotive Technology; Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karl Hofmann-von Kap-herr, Chairman, Association of German Engineers and Mr. Felix C. Bentgens, Assistant Professor, Institute for Automotive Technology, for their contributions in Covid relief. Certificates of Appreciation were distributed to them; and in response, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Koenig, gave an acceptance speech. Cultural events organized as a tribute to the Founderviewed Ms. Reshma Basil, PG Student, M.E Communication Systems, KCG College of Technology, Karapakkamgiving a beautiful rendition of a Malayalam song; and students of Hindustan International School, Guindy enacting a creative roleplay titled “Coffee with the Founder” where a student dressed up like the Founder-Chairman and interacted with the interviewer.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanksby Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science and the Closing Prayer and Benediction by Rev. Justin Jose, Student Chaplain, Hindustan Group of Institutions. Besides the YouTube Live Streaming, a physical programme was organized on the same day at Good Shepherd Hall, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science. Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor delivered the Founder’s Day message and Rev. Justin Jose, the Student Chaplain offered the prayer. Students residing in hostels and staff members staying on campus and in close vicinity gathered at the venue and offered floral tribute to the Founder.
