The Department of Visual Communication, SLAAS organized a photo exhibition on 30 and 31 August 2023.The chief guest for the event was Mr. S. Sukumaran, a Veteran Sports photographer, and the Guest of Honor was Mr. K.S. Selvakumar, a Cinematographer. The Photo exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Guest.
The event commenced with a welcome address delivered by Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice-Chancellor. He welcomed the chief guests and other dignitaries for the event. He shared his passion for photography and appreciated the students and faculty of the Department of Visual Communication. He stressed having a 360-degree video booth for the Department of Visual Communication in association with the Department of Mechatronics.
Students had an interactive session with the Guests. Mr. S. Sukumaran responded to a question by the II BSc Visual Communication student that cinematography and Sports Photography are two different fields. In Cinematography, composition is pre-planned but in sports, the moments are captured on the spot. Mr. S. Selvakumar insisted students must have passion, hard work, and observation skills to become successful cinematographers. Also, both creative and technical skills need to be developed through practice and one should be ready to face challenges.
About 250 photographs were received from various colleges in Tamil Nadu and 70 photographs were short-listed and exhibited for two days. Mr. S. Vigneswaran from Ultra College, Madurai won first prize followed by L. Gopinath, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, and Alex Manohar, Loyola College won the second and third prize respectively. Dr. Marceline Pushpa, Head, SLAAS proposed the vote of thanks.
