The Department of Food Technology, School of Liberal Arts and Applied Sciences, organized a Webinar on “Entrepreneur Skill Development” on 9 December 2021. Mrs. Abha Appasamy, Entrepreneur, Proprietor, Abha’s Probiotics, delivered a special lecture. Ms. Roshini Sattar, and Ms. Devisetty Bilvani, II Year B.Sc. Food Technology hosted the event.
The lecture observed Mrs. Abhas Appasamy's experience on how she became a successful entrepreneur. She started the session with the importance of gut microbes and their role in maintaining healthy immune system. Further, she elucidated the importance of fermented foods such as pickles, sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, kefir, beet kwass, curd, buttermilk, etc, for the growth of beneficial gut microbes. Mrs. Abhas discussed about her business ideas on fermented food preparation and briefed the basics of entrepreneurship. She explained about the marketing strategies that are to be considered and to overcome bottleneck issues while starting the small-scale companies. Finally, she explained about quality control and safety measures that are to be focused while manufacturing, storing and selling a product.
Students understood the importance of gut microbes for better health and got motivated for starting start-ups, especially in fermented food science field.
