Delegates Visit From Tuas, Germany On Daad Project

A project by DAAD German Academic Exchange Service under “A New Passage to India - German - Indian Higher Education Co-operation 2019-2023” scheme with a total funding of 0.494 million Euros is sanctioned to Trier University of Applied Sciences (TUAS) and HITS. The 8-day activities of DAAD - TUAS delegates’ visit from Germany in connection with review of project, exchange of students and projects in collaboration with TUAS commenced on 16 August 2019. The esteemed delegation comprised Mr. Michael Wegener, Dy. Consul General, German Consulate, Chennai; Prof. Dr. Peter Koenig, Project Lead – DAAD, Head, Automotive Technology; Prof. Dr. Karl Hofmann-von Kap-herr, Project Lead – DAAD, Head, Manufacturing and Production Technologies; Prof. Dr. Peter Heck, Managing Director, Environmental Planning and Management; Prof. Jorg Obergfell, Head, Design and Architecture; and Prof. Dr. Roland Trapp, Head, Civil Engineering, Service Engineering and Food Technology and 14 students pursuing various branches of study at TUAS.

Mr. Michael Wegener, Dy. Consul General, German Consulate, Chennai gave a vivid description of the activities of DAAD and feedback on the facilities of HITS. Dr. M. Jaikumar, HoD, Automobile, HITS gave a presentation of the progress of the project “DAAD” following which Dr. Peter Koenig presented a note to Consulate General about funding of DAAD Projects to TUAS & HITS. Dr. T.P. Somasundaram, Dean (PGS) & HoD, Civil Engineering and Dr. Sheeba Chander, HoD, Architecture gave an account of the activities of Civil Engineering and Architecture respectively. The delegation discussed about the feasibility of applying funded projects for Civil Engineering and Architecture in relation to Environment and Design, and Architecture with HITS.

The TUAS team visited CENCON, Aero Simulator, Fatigue Testing Lab, Robotics Lab, SMC Pneumatics Lab and CAE, Architecture facilities and appreciated students’ projects, and standard of the laboratories. The team was taken to Dakshinachitra, Muttukadu for witnessing the cultural and architectural models of Tamil Nadu; and Puducherry as an excursion to visit salt preparation and process at Marakanam, Auroville Township, View Point of Matrimandir. They also met Mr. V. Narayanasamy, Chief Minister of Puducherry at his residence.

Dr. Ashok G. Verghese, Director, HITS felt elated and pleased to have met the delegation and wished them success towards completion of the project. Later during the stay at HITS, Prof. Dr. Peter Koenig and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Roland Trapp gave a seminar on “Next Generation Mobility” and “Traffic Safety in Road Infrastructure” to students respectively.
