A five-day Winter School Programme on “Cyber Security Techniques and Deep Learning” sponsored by Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and organized by Kruptos Security Club (KSC), Centre for Networking and Cyber Defense (CNCD), and Department of Information Technology, School of Computing Sciences, HITS via MS Teams was conducted from 13 to 17 December 2021. Mr. Sabarinath, Director, Digital Technology Assurance and Compliance practice, KPMG, Pvt. Ltd., Chennai presided over the event as the Chief Guest.
The welcome address during Day 1 was given by Dr. V. Ceronmani Sharmila, HOD-IT, HITS. During the address, the trends of Cyber Security and Deep Learning using Matlab were highlighted. Dr. Angelina Geetha, Dean (E&T), HITS delivered the Presidential Address; and explained about the impact of Cyber Security programme. The keynote address of Mr. Sabarinath observed a brief view on “Cyber Security Ecosystem and Detection Mechanisms”. Dr. Lakshmi Priya, Post-Doctoral Fellow, Department of Gastroenterology, JIPMER, Puducherry IT Lab, discussed about Deep Dive into Math behind CNN and interacted with the participants. Hands-on demo on how to use CNN enhanced the participants with fascinating facts using MATLAB.
The Day 2 of the programme began with an address by Mr. Praveen Singh, Senior Data Scientist, HSBC, Bangalore describing about Cyber Security models using Data Science tool kit on Cyber Security. Dr. Shishir Kumar Shandilya, Division Head of Cyber Security & Digital Forensics, Vellore Institute of Technology, VIT University, Bhopal discussed about “Futuristic Cyber Security Approaches for Adaptive Defense and Resilience”. Dr. Anand Mukhopadhya, Education Customer Success Engineer at MathWorks, Bangalore gave a demo on MATLAB tools for cyber security and asked participants to do related exercises. Day 3 was started by Dr. Y. C. A. Padmanabha Reddy, Associate Professor, Department of CSE, B V Raju Institute of Technology, Narsapur, Telangana. He presented a session on Machine Learning for cyber security. Later on, Dr. Sarika Jain, Associate Professor, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra elaborated on Semantic Intelligence: The Next Step in Artificial Intelligence. Dr. D. Saraswathi, Associate Trainer, SCS solutions, Chennai handled Matlab Session and gave an insight into sequence learning, and showed some sample results of various classifiers using Matlab. Day 4 was started with Dr. ASN Chakravarthi, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, JNTUK, University College of Engineering Vizianagaram, explaining about the Trends in Cyber Security and a demo on how to check vulnerability on mobile devices. Dr. Suhas Gajanan Sapate, Professor, Department of CSE, Anna Saheb Dange College of Engineering and Technology, Ashta, Maharashtra briefed the general concepts of Important Sections of IT Act 2000. Mr. Pratyush Roy, Engineer, EDG, MathWorks handled Session on Deep Learning using MATLAB and explained implementation of some sample learning algorithms using Matlab. Mr. Praveen Singh, Senior Data Scientist, HSBC, Bangalore continued his second session on “Developing Cyber Security Models Using Data Science Tool Kit”. Dr. Poorva Agrawal, Associate Professor, G H Raisoni Group of Institutions, Pune motivated the students by taking the session on Importance of Cyber Security.
The final session of the programme was conducted by Mr. I. Thowbik Ahamed, Final Year, B. Tech. Cyber Security, Department of Information Technology, HITS. He gave a demonstration lecture about “Vulnerability Management and Penetration Testing Methodologies”. Around 80 students participated in the programme and gave positive feedback about the sessions. Mrs. I. Juvanna, Assistant Professor, Department of IT proposed the vote of thanks.
