Head - Student Affairs while chairing the session said that the civil service is the backbone of our national development without which our country may not have progressed this far. He admired the contributions of civil servants in making our nation a progressive and modernized one. The crux of Ms. Nandita Gupta’s talk is given below.
"Civil Service is both challenging and full of opportunities. Not only civil services are changing but also the context is changing. Policies and the political contexts are changing. Earlier, Civil Services were held in awe. Today, the charm of civil services is thinning due to the rise of the private sector media.Different challenges come for civil servants. We have to work with the politicians and draw boundaries with them. Politicians want honest and efficient civil servants, only then they can serve the public. Politicians have to face the elections once in five years. Civil Servants should not unnecessarily go head on collision with the politicians without reason. We have to develop strategies to take everyone along, while subscribing to law.The Media is after us every day. We need extreme patience to deal with questions posed by the public and media. We are answerable to everybody because the public looks upon us as the solution provider.Honesty and integrity are needed for the better outcome of civil services".
