The Career Compass 2023 – An Open House for school students is being organized by Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai on 5 and 6 January 2023. The event presented the students with various options to choose their dream career path. The inaugural function was held on 5 January 2023. The Career Compass 2023 conducted competitions such as Young Scientist, Elocution, and Science Quiz. The students competed enthusiastically and won prizes worth Rupees One Lakh. Also, special motivational lectures on topics like, Start-up at School and Robotics and AI were conducted by expert professors of HITS. The students also visited various projects displayed by the departments that showcased the unique features of every program. The event was attended by more than 4500 students from rural and city government and private schools from the districts of Chennai, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram.
Ms. Sherin Someetharan, IRS, Additional Commissioner – Customs and GST, Chennai was the Chief Guest. In her inaugural address, she said that this event is a great opportunity and platform for the school students to gain confidence and also know the different career options available after school education. She urged the students to think beyond medicine, engineering and technology and explore the various options available in the field of arts and science.
Dr. Devendran Thirunavukarasu, Founder and CTO, ST Advanced Composites, Shizuoka, Japan and Alumnus of HITS (Batch 2006-2011: Department of Aeronautical Engineering), in his special address advised the students to set their goals and work towards achieving it. He narrated his personal experience during his study at HITS. He said that the Institution offers other opportunities beyond academics like industrial visits, internships with government agencies and private sectors which helped in building his career. He encouraged the students to make the right decision in choosing their future career paths.
In his felicitation address, Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor, HITS briefed about the programs offered by HITS and how it would help the school students for their future careers. He explained the extracurricular activities conducted at HITS and the Clubs that offer these activities. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Densingh Joshua Israel, Chief Coordinator, Career Compass 2023. The event concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Srideivanai Nagarajan, Coordinator, Career Compass 2023.
