BREAKSEC WORKSHOP ON ETHICAL HACKING
The BreakSec workshop on “Ethical Hacking” was conducted by Kruptos Security Club (KSC), Centre for Networking and Cyber Defense (CNCD) and Department of Information Technology, via Google Meet on 25 and 26 September 2020. Mr. Venugopal N, Head of Presales-India and SAARC, Checkpoint Software Technologies presided the event as the Chief Guest which was well-attended by over 140 students.
The introduction and welcoming on behalf of Kruptos Security Club was done by Ms. Sandya Jalesh, Core member, KSC. Dr. V. Ceronmani Sharmila, HOD-IT and Head-CNCD delivered the Welcome Address emphasizing the future of Cyber Training and its innovation. Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor, HITS in his Presidential Address explained about “Ethical Hacking”. The Felicitation Address was given by Dr. N. Vasudevan, Dean E&T, HITS. The Keynote address was given by the chief guest of the event Mr. Venugopal, Chief Guest, addressed the participant with a brief view on Checkpoint, and dealt with topics such as Generations of Attacks and Protections, Evolution of Attacker Techniques and Defensive Technologies, Mobile Malware, IOT, Polish Tram, Satori Botnet- Attack Flow, etc. Mr. B V Baiju, Asst. Professor, Department of IT proposed the Vote of Thanks.
The technical session was kick-started by Mr. Nitin Umesh, Principal Consultant, Quick Heal Technologies Limited. Hands-on demo on creating a Stub/Malware and detect them, fascinating facts about trojans, viruses were dealt. Mr. Ayush Priya, DevSecOps Engineer, Appsecco, gave a technical session which ranged from challenges in Secret Management, Necessity of Secrets Scanning, Impact of Leaked Secrets. Finally, the participants were enhanced about Automation, GitHub actions and Integrations with CI/CD set up. The day concluded with Mr. Thowbik Ahamed and Ms. Sandya explaining about the Importance of Capture the Flag (CTF) Challenges and Introducing the platform that had been created for the CTF contest which was to begin on 25 September 2020.
Mr. Puneet Mehta, Professional Cybersecurity & Risk Advisor commenced the day-2 session briefing on the general concepts of Red Teaming, Red Team Exercise Coverage, Red Team Exercise Deliverable, Some Tips for the New Red Teamers and concluded the session with Message for budding Cybersecurity Professional. Later, Ms. Sandya informed the attendees that the Capture the Flag contest participants who are in the top 5 of the score board should submit a write on how they cracked the challenges, and accordingly the top 3 write ups would determine the rewards.
