SPECIAL LECTURE ON “BIG DATA IN PRECISION MEDICINE”
Dr. Anbasaru Lourduraj, Professor, University of Nottingham, UK, in his special lecture on “Big Data in Precision Medicine” elaborated the need for precision medicine and the types of data collected from patients for analysis. Dr. Lourduraj is acclaimed for his expertise in detecting the brain tumour, particularly in children; and has obtained several grants from Children’s Cancer and Leukemia Group/Little Princess Trust, UK. In this event organized by the department of Information Technology on 19 August 2018, Dr. Lourduraj focused on brain tumour and stated diagnosis as one of its biggest challenges. Further, he apprised the process of MRI, the first diagnostic tool for detecting brain tumour, that localizes the tumour and sends data to pathologist for analysis and concludes the type of tumour. The significance of Machine Learning Algorithm deployed for the job of pathologist, and the need for autocorrelation concept than pixel comparison were also discussed. Dr. Lourduraj’s study of prediction of number of kids prone to Cerebellar Mutism Syndrome (CMS) using Decision Tree Machine Learning Algorithm was truly an eye-opener for the audience.
