Aicte Chhatra Vishwakarma Awards 2019

The AICTE Vishwakarma Awards 2019 organised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for promoting innovative spirit and scientific temperament for holistic development of society through its approved institutes was convened by Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science on 18 December 2019.

The Vishwakarma Awards are inspired by the spirit of engineering and creation patronized by Lord Vishwakarma, the ruling deity of construction practices in India. By means of this competition, the innovations and achievements of individuals and institutions/ organizations are recognized and applauded. The Awards are thus a means to provide a platform to look at the societal challenges, with an aim to provide innovative and low cost solutions. It encourages the students to focus on hands on skills and also to foster Convergence and Collaboration so as to bring about sustainable solutions. Hence the Awards are aimed at motivating young individuals, inspiring leaders and institutions/ organizations to raise their performance in their specific domains, leading to significant contribution towards the growth and development of the nation as a whole. The Vishwakarma Awards was first started by the AICTE in the year 2017 with “To convert existing institute into smart institute using innovative approaches” as theme. The second ChhatraVishwakarma Awards’ 2018 was based on the theme “Empowerment of Villages through Technologies.”

With an overall aim to expand the rural economy, the AICTE announced the ChhatraVishwakarma Awards 2019 with the theme as“How to enhance the income of Village?” Under this, AICTE received more than, 465no. of applications from Southern Regioncomprising Tamil Nadu and Puducherry only. AICTE, after the second level of scrutiny selected 105 applications for the Regional Convention of Southern region, which was held at HITS. The convention was inaugurated at 10 a.m. by Dr. K. P.Issac, ViceChancellor, HITS in the presence of officials from AICTE and the University. Students from 105 Institutions displayed their working prototypes which were evaluated by a jury comprising members from Industry and Academia.The prototypes were displayed under eight different categories comprising Energy, Water, Waste Management, Farm and Flock, Livelihood, Crop Waste Management, Value Addition to Rural Handicrafts and Agroindustry and Land. The exhibition of the projects was thrown open for the benefit of students of local Government schools in the afternoon. The exhibits were of excellent quality and displayed a good level of innovativeness. The jury selected three winning teams under the different categories. The winners were announced at the valedictory function held in the evening. The winners of the Regional convention will be called to exhibit their prototypes at the National Convention and exhibition at AICTE HQ’s, New Delhi, which is scheduled to be held in the 3rd week of January 2020.
