INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON “PHOTOGRAPHY - EXPLORATION OF PAST AND FUTURE” | Event Date: Thursday, 28th, February 2019
The landscape of photography has changed drastically in the past twenty-five years. Our photographs share so much about who we are as individuals: what we find beautiful, fascinating, funny, delicious, important, and inspiring. Marking the passage of time, they serve as a chronicle of our lives and evoke nostalgia. The School of Architecture, HITS in association with Chennai Photo Biennale conducted an International Workshop on “Photography – Exploration of Past and Future” mentored by Ms. Catherine Leutenegger on 28 February 2019. Ms. Leutenegger is a visual artist and photographer based in Switzerland. Her first monographical book titled “Hors-champ (Off-screen) Revealing Photographers’ Workspaces” published in 2006 bagged the prestigious Manor Cultural Prize. About 140 students from School of Architecture, B. Sc. Visual communication, B. Des. FDA attended the workshop.
The lecture was divided into two sessions: the first portraying works, themes, journey and experiences of Ms. Leutenegger and relevance to various photographs showing the past and the present based on the theme; and the second critically analyzing photographs presented by faculty and students of School of Architecture with reference to context. Most of the entries won appreciations from Ms. Leutenegger who reflected on how images play and how our brain interprets them. Novel dimensions of photography relating to the field of Architecture, growth in the latest technology and its impact in photography were also deliberated.
