A grand launch of "Sound Works", a recording studio of Department Visual Communication, School of Liberal Arts and Applied Sciences (SLAAS), at the Bay range campus, HITS was unveiled by Mr. Darbuka Siva, Music Director; and Mr. P.W.C. Mr. Davidar, Retired IAS Officer on 17 December 2021. Mr. Sameer Bharath Ram, CEO Sameer Ventures presided as the special guest. Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director (HITS) honoured the guests with a bouquet and shawl.
Dr. David T. Easow, Head SLAAS upon welcoming the gathering, gave an overview about the event and thanked the faculty members of Visual Communication who had contributed to set up of the Studio.Dr. T. Nirmala, Associate Professor, Dept. of Visual Communication introduced the chief guests and thanked them for their presence on the special day. Mr. P.W.C. Davidar, unveiled the plaque; and Mr. Darbuka Siva opened the Studio by a ribbon cutting."Sound Works" is equipped with state-of-the-art facility consisting a live room equipped with microphones and mic stands; and a console room equipped with Yamaha TFI mixing console and audio recording software. "Sound Works" also houses various musical instruments such as keyboard, drums, miruthangam and guitars for practice.Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor; Dr. Ashok G. Verghese,Director;Dr. Susan Marthandam, Director (HCAS); Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor; Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan Pro Vice Chancellor; Principal of HCAS and faculty members of Hindustan Group of Institutions graced the occasion with their presence.
HITS’ students band named “BANDEX” & “POORVANG” gave musical performancesof Mr. Darbuka Siva including “MaruvarthaiPaesathae’by Akshaya and ‘Visiri’by Srikeath; Solo ‘Miruthangam’ performance by Abishek and Mash-up sang by Akshaya and Hridaya Jain accompanied by Band Ex members, and Mr.C.Santhosh, Music Instructorwere appreciated by the gathering. Students had an interactive session with Mr. Darbuka Siva, and the latter sharedhis experiences in the film industry and answered to the queries raised by Ms. Akshaya and Mr. Alwin.Mr. Mohan Kumar, Assistant Professor presented the chief guests with a portrait sketch.
