A two-day Faculty Development Programme on “Machine Learning” was conducted on 7 and 8 December 2018 by Department of Information Technology and School of Computing Sciences in association with Machine Intelligence and Data Analysis Research Centre (MIDARC). The programme was attended by 31 participants from various Colleges, Universities and Industries. The training programme had lectures and lab sessions and covered various topics of Machine Learning with lab sessions exposing participants to real world issues and enabling them practice different tools available in Machine Learning.

Dr. V. Ceronmani Sharmila, HOD, Department of IT briefed about the importance of machine learning in various aspects. A brief report on the Centre for Machine Intelligence and Data Analytics Research Centre was given by Dr. Padmaveni, Associate professor, Department of CSE.
Dr. N. Vasudevan, Dean Academics quoted the emergence and different applications of machine learning.

Dr. Elizabeth Sherly, Professor (HAG), Former Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIIT-M), Trivandram, Kerala was the Chief Guest. Dr. Elizabeth introduced the evolution of data science and analytics over the years and the blooming technology of Artificial Immune System. Drawing comparison of machine learning and conventional programming, she insisted on research being carried out in Computer Science and Information Technology background by opening the black box, analyze the working system and improve the system’s performance. An online webinar by Mr.Shivam, IEEE , Pune briefed on machine learning, real time projects, especially Colorization of infra-red images. Mr. Janarthanan, Specialist–Training and Mr. Kumar Vikram, Associate Consultant, ATOS Syntel Pvt Ltd. highlighted the importance of Neural Language Processing and its real time implementation. Also, hands on training using NLTK tool were practiced by the participants.
